I was tasked with creating a banner for mobile-only clients visiting StickPage when we released Stick War: Legacy at Max Games. I used assets from the game and a JavaScript runtime of the skeleton animation system we used to create a responsive animated banner that aimed to funnel mobile clients to their respective app stores to try the game.
This was my first major project working with WebGL and taught me a lot about the vast landscape of devices and capabilities. The renderer gracefully degrades into displaying a static image if the visitor’s device can’t handle the animation. I was proud to have made something that was both visually appealing and functional across a wide range of devices.
I learned a lot about the importance of performance in web development during this project. The banner had to be lightweight and fast to load, as it was the first thing a visitor would see when they landed on the website. I spent a lot of time optimizing the assets and the rendering code to ensure that the banner would load quickly and run smoothly on as many devices as possible.
